      Dunkirk Warriors Lacrosse

Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States. Youth membership (ages 15 and under) in US Lacrosse has more than tripled since the year 2000 to nearly 100,000.  Here in Dunkirk our Scooper and Clinic programs of 5-8 year olds has grown 60% over the past 4 years.  The game of Lacrosse takes a lot of hand eye coordination, so we like to get the players started at a young age so they have the basic fundamentals of the sport down before the age of 7-8 where it becomes very competitive in our county.

The sport of lacrosse is a combination of basketball, soccer, football and hockey. Anyone can play lacrosse--the big or the small. The game requires and rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Quickness and speed are two highly prized qualities in lacrosse. An exhilarating sport, lacrosse is fast-paced and full of action. Long sprints up and down the field with abrupt starts and stops, precision passes and dodges are routine in boys lacrosse.

Lacrosse is sometimes perceived to be a violent and dangerous game, however, injury statistics prove otherwise. While serious injuries can and do occur in lacrosse, the game has evolved with an emphasis on safety, and the rate of injury is comparatively low compared to other contact sports.

Dunkirk Warriors Lacrosse is dedicated to promoting the game of lacrosse to boys ages 5 through 14.  In addition to teaching the fundamental skills necessary to play the sport, we will teach the strategies and teamwork necessary to master the sport and emphasize sportsmanship, camaraderie, and work ethic.  We hope to make each players involvement with Dunkirk Lacrosse an experience that will last a lifetime.

AGE GROUPS:

SCOOPERS:  The "Scoopers" program emphasis is on instruction and fun. The Scoopers play a 6 v 6 format on a half sized field. The play will be without a goalie and every player will rotate throughout the field of play in order to gain exposure at each position.  Practices are held on Tuesday evenings with Games on Thursday evenings.  The Scoop-A-Thon is held mid May.  Ages:  5-6 yrs. old.

CLINIC:  The "Clinic" program's emphasis is on instruction and less on competition.  Games are played on a slightly smaller field and rules are modified to eliminate heavy contact.  Coaches are on the field during games.  This year, we have been told, County officials will referree the games.  Games are played throughout Anne Arundel County primarily on weekends with some games during the week.

PEEWEE:  The "PeeWee" program's emphasis is still instructional.  It is the goal of this program to have all teams of equal talent. Games are played throughout Anne Arundel County primarily on weekends with some games during the week. County officials referee these games.

MIDGET:  The "Midget" program starts the shift in emphasis to competition.  At this level, teams are formed based on different skill levels.  Basic skills are still taught to all players, but by breaking into skill level teams we can teach advanced techniques to the experienced players.  Games are played throughout Anne Arundel County primarily on weekends with some games during the week.  The season ends with County and State Championship games for the top teams.

JUNIORS:  The "Juniors" program continues the emphasis on competition.  At this level, teams are formed based on different skill levels.  The program is open to players of all level of ability, including beginners.  Games are played throughout Anne Arundel County primarily on weekends with some games during the week. The season ends with County and State Championship games for the top teams.
